On 10 April it was widely reported in the press, including in Mint, that criminals tried to extract close to $170 million from a Union Bank of India account at Citigroup.
1. Was this breach reported to the RBI by Union Bank, and if so, on what date did the RBI receive the information from Union Bank of India? Please provide an exact reproduction of the report/notification/message that Union Bank of India sent to the RBI.
2. In an RTI response with reference (RBIND/R/2016/04761) dated 22 December 2016, the RBI stated that there had been 19 incidents reported to the RBI from financial institutions between 2 June 2016 and 31 October 2016. Was the Union Bank breach counted among the 19 incidents?
3. The above-mentioned RTI response stated that the nature of the breaches were "Ransomeware attack on few systems, DDoS attack on few servers, website defacement attack, skimming card attack." If the Union Bank breach was counted among the 19 incidents, under which of these 4 categories was it counted?
