How does it work?

Creating a request

You have two options when submitting a RTI request online within YouRTI:

  • Use the email-like form. Select an agency and contact(s), if you know where the request should go, or just select "Unknown" for the contact. Next, fill out the body of the message and send when complete. You can also add contacts and agencies if the applicable government is already in our database. If we're missing that particular government, send an email to info@yourti.in and we will look into it.
  • Use our guided wizard. The wizard will generate boilerplate language and let you fill in the details specific to your request. You can access contacts from our database. If you don't see the information you are looking for, email info@yourti.in.in and will do our best to assist you.

Submitting

  • When you hit Submit, YouRTI will either file an electronic or postal RTI request with the relevant agency contact.
  • If we hear back from the contact, we update the status of the request. Any response is scanned and saved as an attachment to the request.

Sharing

When you're creating your request, you can choose to make it public or to keep it private. If it is public it will appear in YouRTI's listing of public requests and anyone with the url can view the request. Anonymous requests are always public. Once public, a request cannot be made private. Private requests, on the other hand, are not open to the public.
