Telangana: 42,90,246 benefitted from Rs 500 LPG cylinder refill scheme, says RTI



Hyderabad: An RTI request filed by Hyderabad-based activist Kareem Ansari has revealed that 42,90,246 beneficiaries benefitted (till August 24) from the Mahalakshmi scheme for the refilling of LPG domestic cylinder at Rs 500 each for Telangana citizens. The scheme was among the ‘Six Guarantees’ that Congress promised during the State Assembly elections last year. It was launched by chief minister A Revanth Reddy on February 27. The Civil Supplies department officials said that there is no waiting list for the domestic LPG cylinder refilling scheme. The applications received were verified and approved after being subject to their eligibility through the applications submitted during the Praja Palana. The subsidy was credited to the respective bank accounts. Elaborating on the progress of the scheme, the officials said that at the time of launching the scheme, Rs 80 crores were sanctioned for the fiscal 2023-24. For the fiscal year 2024-25, Rs 723.33 crores was sanctioned and Rs 241.10 crores has been released on vote on account under the Mahalaxmi scheme. Out of the 42,90,246 beneficiaries, the highest number of beneficiaries include 3,84,518 in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits. Similarly, the Nalgonda district has 2,34,997 beneficiaries, followed by 2,29,037 beneficiaries in Khammam and 2,19,336 beneficiaries in Nizamabad districts. Narayanapet has the lowest number of beneficiaries at 58,679.
