In reference to the Bar Council of India (BCI) Rules of Legal Education (Part IV, Chapter II), it is stated that for admission into a 3-year LLB course, the eligibility criterion is a graduation degree (in any field or stream) from a recognized university. However, the eligibility criteria mentioned for admission to the 3-year LLB course at Rajiv Gandhi School of Intellectual Property Law, IIT Kharagpur, appear to be different and are specified as follows:
i. First Class Bachelor's Degree in Engineering/Technology/Medicine or equivalent.
ii. First Class Master's Degree in Science or Pharmacy or equivalent.
iii. First Class MBA Degree with any of the above.
In this context, I seek the following information under the RTI Act, 2005:
1. Provide confirmation whether this specific eligibility criterion for admission to the 3-year LLB course at Rajiv Gandhi School of Intellectual Property Law, IIT Kharagpur has been approved by the Bar Council of India.
2. If the Bar Council of India has granted approval for the eligibility criteria mentioned above, kindly provide copies of the relevant documents, correspondence, or approval letters.
3. If there is any deviation or special exemption granted to Rajiv Gandhi School of Intellectual Property Law, IIT Kharagpur for setting these specific eligibility conditions, please provide details of such exemptions, including copies of related communications or decisions made by the Bar Council of India.
4. If the above eligibility criteria have not been approved by the Bar Council of India, please provide details of any ongoing or past discussions regarding this issue, along with reasons for the same, if available.
5. Kindly provide any guidelines or communications issued by the Bar Council of India that address the eligibility requirements for LLB courses in specialized institutions like Rajiv Gandhi School of Intellectual Property Law, IIT Kharagpur or similar.
